4 things to think about University Accommodation

By Frannie Simpson
Returning to University? Here’s some things to think of when renting during COVID.

As cities are starting to open up again and we are beginning to return to normality, it is important to consider how COVID may affect you going into another year of university, especially when renting.

That’s why Reign have compiled a short list of things to remember whilst searching for your next student property.

1. Do not rush to sign up for a tenancy!

Make sure you are fully informed on your universities plans and how they are organising teaching as they head into the next academic year. Is it still going to be online, or will you be receiving face-to-face teaching?

Once you have signed up to a new tenancy of a property, you will be liable to continue paying rent, even if you do not wish to live there anymore! If you are a student attending a university in a different city, is commuting an option?

2. Are you happy with your housemates?

You may be needing to spend more time with these people in your next year if restrictions are still in place so make sure they are people that you get on well with!

Whether you live alone or in a group, you need to make sure that you will be happy with those in your company.

3. Ask Questions!

It is still important to keep social contact with others at a minimum during this time, so make sure to ask the agent plenty of questions prior to the viewing to make sure you are well informed. Have you seen a virtual tour of the property? Do you know how much the rent and deposit are? Are bills included? Will it be furnished?

4. Make sure you have good broadband.

If we were to go into another lockdown (touch wood!), does the property you are wishing to rent have good broadband? Is it sufficient enough to support online teaching and lectures? No one likes lagging internet!

We have a range of student accommodation available, be sure to check out our property listings and grab the top accommodation before it's gone.
